Building Consumer Trust in the Era of GDPR: Announcing the Consent Management Hub

After years of anticipation, the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will come into effect this week. And it couldn’t come at a more appropriate time. Recent events have put the spotlight on data privacy, and consumers expect greater transparency from the brands they trust. These new demands are among the key drivers behind Otonomo’s first big product announcement: The Consent Management Hub now available in our automotive data services platform.

The Consent Management Hub is the first product of its kind to provide an efficient way for connected car drivers to take control over the sharing of their personal automotive data. It simplifies the driver opt-in process for automotive manufacturers on the Otonomo Platform and validates consent with each personal data request from third-party mobility service providers.

I’ve spent the last few months talking to many leaders in and around the automotive sector. It’s clear that consent management is a more complicated problem than people initially thought. Think of the in-vehicle delivery service that Amazon recently announced: In that use case, information and consent needs to flow from purchaser to a retailer, to that retailer’s courier service, and from the courier to the purchaser’s vehicle. Without a centralized hub, all of these parties will need to build separate systems to secure consent and transmit personal data. The Otonomo Consent Management Hub makes this a lot faster and simpler to implement.
