A car dongle is an after-market telematic device used to collect data and sometimes provide connectivity to a vehicle. Dongles are plugged into a standard OBD II port (that is no longer in use in EVs) and can receive vehicle data from sensors in the car to track various metrics and report on malfunctions. Dongles are typically costly, require complicated installation and de-installation procedures, and pose a security risk.
